Statement of Faith (READ THROUGH)

The sections below cover essential Christian beliefs at Calvary Chapel Spokane Valley. Please take the time to read and understand our doctrinal statements.

The Bible

The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, composed of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament. We believe that Scripture in its entirety originated with God, and that it was given through the instrumentality of chosen men. Scripture thus at one and the same time speaks with the authority of God and reflects the backgrounds, styles and vocabularies of the human authors. We hold that the Scriptures are infallible and inerrant in the original manuscripts. They are the unique, full and final authority on all matters of faith and practice and there are no other writing similarly inspired by God.

God

We believe that there is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each of Whom possess equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality. In the beginning, God created out of nothing the world and all the things in the world and all the things therein, thus manifesting the glory of His power, wisdom and goodness. By His sovereign power, He continues to sustain His creation. By His providence, He is operating throughout history to fulfill His redemptive purposes.

Salvation

The central purpose of God’s revelation in Scripture is to call all people into fellowship with Himself. Originally created to have fellowship with God, man defied God, choosing to go his independent way, and was thus alienated from God, and he suffered the corruption of his nature, rendering him unable to please God. The fall took place at the beginning of human history, and all individuals since have suffered these consequences and are thus in need of the saving grace of God. The whole or in part, of human works or goodness, and must be personally appropriated by repentance and faith. When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue performing it until the day of its full consummation.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal second Person of the Trinity who came to earth, conceived through a miraculous virgin birth, becoming fully man and remaining fully God in all His deity. He lived a perfect life of obedience to the Father and voluntarily atoned for the sins of all mankind by dying on the cross as our substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. Jesus forever reigns in his glorified body, the same body he lived on earth in, died in, and rose again in. He ascended into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for those who profess His name. He shall come again to earth, personally and visibly, to consummate history and God’s eternal plan.

Holy Spirit

The essential accompaniment of the genuine saving relationship with Jesus Christ is a life of holiness and obedience, attained by believers as they submit to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity. He was sent into the world by the Father and the Son to apply to mankind the saving work of Christ. He enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in them a recognition of their need for a Savior and regenerates them. At the point of salvation, He permanently indwells every believer to become the source of assurance, strength and wisdom, and uniquely endows each believer with gifts for the building up of the body. The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Scripture. His power and control are appropriated by faith, making it possible for the believer to lead life of Christ-like character and to bear fruit to the glory of the Father.

Human Destiny

Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. For all mankind, there will be a resurrection of the body into the spiritual world, and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual. Unbelievers will be separated from God into condemnation. God’s judgment will reveal His justice in consigning them to perpetuate in eternal retribution for their won rejection of God. Believers will be received into eternal communion with God and will be rewarded for works done in this life.

Faith & Practice

Scripture is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. This church recognizes that it cannot bind the conscience of individual members in areas where Scripture is silent. Rather, each believer is to be led in those areas by the Lord, to whom he or she alone is ultimately responsible.

Code of Conduct (READ THROUGH)

As we step into ministry at Calvary Chapel Spokane Valley, we are ultimately serving the Lord Jesus Christ by serving His church. In whatever area we are serving, we are called to set an example for others to follow. In 1 Timothy 4:12, the apostle Paul said to Timothy, who was serving as a pastor, “be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity”. As Timothy was serving the Lord Jesus, Paul exhorted (instructed) him to be an example to the believers in his words and actions. This same exhortation and instruction applies to us today who are serving Christ and His church. As we serve Christ, we must always be mindful of the fact that our words and actions powerfully impact lives, in a positive or negative way, by the things we say and do, not only as we assemble ourselves with His church but also as we conduct ourselves in the world.

Do you agree with the following requirements to serve? (please read)

  • Your personal relationship with Jesus Christ should be the highest priority in your life and kept with the utmost diligence by regular Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship with the church (regular church attendance outside of serving is required) (Hebrews 10: 24-25 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching).

  • You will abstain from substance abuse (1 Timothy 3:3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous). NOTE: Prayerfully consider setting this liberty (drinking, smoking/vaping & other substances) aside to be an example and to not cause your brother or sister to stumble in his/her walk (1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify); (Romans 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way).

  • Your speech must be edifying (Ephesians 4:29-31 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers).

  • Your appearance must reflect modesty (appropriate clothing that represents the Lord, so as not to cause our brother or sister in the Lord to stumble). (Romans 14:13 read above; 1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation…).

  • Your life ought to reflect the life of Christ as you seek to live according to Biblical principles, demonstrating morality (Ephesians 4:17-5:21 …And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness…).

  • Your life ought to reflect the life of Christ in sexual purity. Scripture defines sexual immorality as any kind of sexual intimacy or sexual misconduct outside the boundaries of marriage such as premarital sex/fornication (this includes living together before marriage), extramarital sex/adultery, homosexuality, and pornography (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 …For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor…).

  • You should be dependable and responsible in your service by keeping your commitments to serve (Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men).

  • You should be careful what you post on social media platforms (words & pictures) (Proverbs 20:7a The righteous man walks in his integrity.)

***DISCLAIMER***
